Some things to consider in relation to asbestos and your home:

• Houses constructed before 1980s – If your home was built during or before the 1980s, then it’s very likely it may be contaminated with asbestos, as this material was used extensively in construction, insulation, and tiling.
• Roofing sheets & tiles – Most corrugated and bitumen roofing tiles use white asbestos – the least dangerous of the three types of asbestos – but still a hazardous material.
• Flooring tiles – Vinyl tiles and vinyl sheets with paper or millboard are all likely to be contaminated with asbestos – especially if your home was built during or prior to the 1980s.
• Ceiling tiles & fixtures – Old ceilings are made of asbestos cement, contaminating nearby light bases, and other such fixtures.
• Insulation – Grey and white asbestos were popular and effective as insulation and fire-proof material.
